Sota Cracklers
‘Sota Cracklers! It’s a terrible, terrible pun… so of course we went with it! Actually the name of our made-in-Minnesota candles is partly derived from the crackling wooden wicks we use!

Sota Cracklers is a Minnesota-made candle company known for its crackling wooden wicks and soy wax sourced from American-grown soybeans. Founded in 2009 by Laura Muhm, the brand blends science and art to create unique, Minnesota-inspired scents like Sexy Lumberjack and Backyard Bonfire. Each candle is hand-poured in small batches.

Why We Love Them
Scentsational Soy
Sota Cracklers makes soy candles with crackling wood wicks and scents inspired by Minnesota’s seasons and landscapes. Hand-poured in small batches, their candles are cozy, nostalgic, and perfect for sweater weather or cabin weekends. Bonus: they’re stocked in Kowalski’s Markets and local boutiques across the state.
Meet the Maker
Laura Muhm
Laura is the maker behind Sota Cracklers, a candle company rooted in creativity, craftsmanship, and deep Minnesota pride. From her cozy studio in White Bear Lake, she hand-pours each candle using 100% Midwest-grown soy wax and sustainably sourced wooden wicks that give off that signature, soothing crackle.
She’s been an artist at heart since childhood — the kind of kid who said, “When I grow up, I want to be an artist,” and actually meant it. She studied art and design throughout her schooling years, exploring every medium she could get her hands on. That passion now lives in every Sota Cracklers candle.
Laura’s inspiration? Minnesota — in all its seasonal extremes and natural beauty. Her candles reflect the sights, scents, and feelings that come with cabin weekends, snowy mornings, crisp fall air, and starry summer nights. With Sota Cracklers, Laura invites you to slow down, breathe in, and enjoy the magic of life in The North Star State.
